ACCELERATING GROWTH THROUGH STRATEGIC INVESTMENTS

Northern Arizona University is making progress in increasing our research activity. Research expenditures totaled $46.3 million in fiscal year 2017, exceeding our enterprise plan goal of $35.2 million by 32 percent. In fact, NAU has nearly reached its 2025 goal of $46.8 million. Federally financed research expenditures increased from $23.4 million in 2016 to $26 million in fiscal year 2017.

NAU increased its net assignable research space from 165,000 to 201,260 square feet. We increased the number of full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty from 526 to 534, recruiting highly productive researchers whose efforts are generating higher research activity and supporting new graduate programs — all of which are impacting our state, the region and beyond.

NAU has made significant progress to achieve research productivity and recognition that is comparable to our peer universities and to complement the research strength of our Arizona peers. We will continue to direct investment in our faculty and facilities to sustain and to grow further the level of impact that the state of Arizona expects.
